DOUBLE FIRST FOR EXTON PARK!

Posted on

Just twelve months since launching our first wines, we are absolutely delighted to announce that we have struck Gold.  Twice!

The results of the two of the most prestigious international wine competitions have been revealed this week. In the International Wine Challenge, we were awarded a Gold Medal in for our brand-new Pinot Meunier Rose – the first wine of its kind in England, and introduced earlier this month to great acclaim.  At the same time, Exton Park’s first ‘declared’ vintage, Blanc de Blancs 2011, has won Gold in the Decanter World Wine Awards.

Quite an achievement for our chalk-sloped Hampshire estate in its first year… and a recognition of the dedicated and collaborative work in the vineyard and the winery. Both seeking to obtain the very best results from each vine, and the different terroirs we have on the property.

‘It is a dream come true’ commented winemaker Corinne Seely, on hearing the news of the prestigious awards. ‘Who would have thought, a year ago, that we would be receiving such accolades.

‘Fred Langdale, the Vineyard Manager, and I always knew we had something very special here at Exton Park. So we have worked together to develop its potential, plot by plot and variety by variety.. Every site has something different to offer’.

Corinne makes her wines in the same way, keeping each site separate and storing them in small vats until she is ready to assemble her ’treasure trove’. Some find their way on to the market as the renowned Non Vintage range, blended from these ‘reserve’ wines for consistent quality year on year.  Others are more individual, being superb examples of what can be achieved with a particular grape variety, or from a promising harvest.

With such a wealth of wines at her fingertips, Seely has been able to innovate and develop her own philosophy for English sparkling wines.  ‘As a winemaker, I appreciate the importance of terroir, and as a French winemaker I find the English terroir fascinating to express’ she explains.

This has been such an exciting year for us all’ she concludes ‘and the faith that our owner Malcolm Isaac, continues to have in the team, gives us the confidence to constantly innovate yet remain true to the beating heart of our exceptional Exton Park vineyard.’

There’s obviously Gold in them thar’ hills!
