Harvest 2014

Harvest 2014

As soon as flowering was over at the begging of July we could see that 2014 had the potential of being a great year. In selected areas in the vineyard we decided that to guarantee a good quality, ripe and clean crop it would be necessary to have to undertake a green harvest. This was to reduce our crop and concentrate the vines energy to the best bunches. As a result we were harvesting our grapes at natural alcohol levels of 11.5% on the day of harvest. Still we were cropping the vineyard at 4 tonnes an acre.

Earlier in the year we finished the second stage of our winery. This included adding another 6 tanks. The largest having a capacity of 10,000 litres. New tanks and a second 3 tonnes press allowed us to get through the harvest smoothly. With both presses running we can now process 5 tonnes every 4 hours. We had 30 people picking between 10 and 20 tonnes per day, happily finishing our harvest in 7 days, with a grand total of 91.5 tonnes of fruit. A record amount for Exton Park Vineyard.
